Guide to Village of Oxford New York -- Policies & Procedures

Water and Sewer --Bills are mailed out quarterly. January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1.
If bills are not paid, the Village Board may order the water turned off or levy the bills to the Village Taxes in June.
For questions on water/sewer bills, call the Village Office: 843-2512.

Water customers should repair all dripping faucets. Be aware, a toilet that you only hear once in a whle running is the biggest user of water and will run up your water/sewer bill--a lot. You need to fix this immediately. Also check your hot water tanks. The blow off valve can get stuck and water pour out of it.

Don't let your meter freeze. It will break, flood your cellar, and cost you. Frozen meter charge is $45.00 plus cost of water and sewer usage.

If you have a problem with your sewer line, call your plumber or the Wastewater Treatment Plant at 843-9525. If the homeowner removes the clean-out cap and a spill occurs, the Village of Oxford is not liable for damages or costs in clean up. Let the Village or your plumber assess where the problem is or whose it is.

Sump pumps connected to the sanitary sewer are illegal. The penalty could be as much as 5 times the charge of your normal sewer bill.

Do not put cooking grease down the drains. We suggest pouring into recyclable cans and freezing, then dispose with regular garbage.

The Village has Spring and Fall clean-up for leaves and lawn debris if put in biodegradable paper bags. The bags are available at the Village Office at $.20 each. Shrub branches and tree limbs must be bundled and stacked. Tree limbs must not exceed 3 inches in diameter and 6 feet in length. All is to be placed between the sidewalk and curb during the collection dates.
Spring Clean-up Dates: last week in April and the first two weeks in May.
Fall Clean-up Dates: the middle three weeks in October with the last weekend just before Halloween.

All Residents are responsible for keeping their lawns mowed and the removal of leaves.

All Residents must keep sidewalks clean from snow and ice. The Village code requires snow removal within 24 hours after the snowfall.

There is NO PARKING on streets between November 1st and April 30th, from 3:00am to 6:00am for snow removal. Cars will be ticketed and may also be towed away.

The Village of Oxford has a Tree Committee that recommends to the Village Board which trees (between the sidewalk and curb only) that need to be trimmed or removed each year. They also have a tree replacement program.

The Town of Oxford oversees Dog Control ordinances except for the Village of Oxford's Barking Dog Ordinance and Dog Excrement Ordinance. Those two laws are enforceable by filing a written, signed complaint with the Village Police Department.
