Oxford Garden Club

Planting Patriotic Flowers in the Park

March 18th meeting: Jeanne Cline discussed the needs of the Garden Club regarding preparations for planting red, white, and blue flowering (annual) plants around the LaFayette Park fountain shrubs. (Donna Schindler had initiated this project at a Bicentennial meeting a few months ago.)  Joe confirmed that Kim Marshman would bring cow manure. Plantings to be 2' out from shrubbery. Jeanne felt that a raised bed would be best for the plants -not to get trampled on- and said she would do the measurements to determine how much top soil would be needed for the project.

April 22nd: Jeanne Cline, Anne Jackson, Donna Schindler and John Farron of the Oxford Garden Club (OGC) were in attendance. Jeanne, the OGC president, discussed the final details regarding preparations for their group's arrangements for a raised flower bed for the Village. It will consist of 120 each: red geraniums, white impatiens and blue ageratum flowering plants around the LaFayette Park fountain shrubs. Donna Schindler and Anne Jackson covered research and details of the project including compost being provided by Kim Marshman and topsoil being donated by Dennis Link. The planting completion date: Memorial Day, 5/26.
The Garden Club will be providing hanging baskets in the bandstand, plantings at the library, primary school and Bida Home. They will also be decorating the Library with patriotic red, white and blue bunting.

Contact information and meeting details will be on hand at the Sale for people who have an interest in joining the Club.
The OGC's many community related activities are funded by monies raised at the Annual Plant Sale. Civic beautification projects include planting and maintaining the gardens around LaFayette Park, Washington Park and in Fort Hill Park, the Oxford Memorial Library. This year, due to the Village of Oxford's Bicentennial celebration, special patriotic decorations will be needed to appropriately festoon the Library. The Club's collective years of experience and skills in decorating enhances Oxford Village's appearance.
