Oxford's" Old Home Week"

Oxford is proud to be honoring the long history of its Village with a Bicentennial Celebration, primarily in the month of July, culminating during "Old Home Week", July 21st - 27th. There will be a U.S. Postal commemorative stamp, post cards, new signs, patriotic flower gardens, park improvements, banners and a proclamation. A limited edition, toy souvenir bluestone wagon will be available, handcrafted by John Knapp of Knapp Knoll Woodworks. Historic themes will be seen in walking tours, concerts; a "Celebration of Agriculture" Saturday mornings at the Farmers Market; an "Early Living Skills" fair July 19th at the Oxford Historical Society's Depot-Museum; and a Reader's Theater on July 24th at 6 On The Square. On Friday, July 25th, the Oxford American Legion will have a Block Party outdoors in the parking lot offering dinner and a DJ for dancing.
Events will culminate on Saturday, July 26th, starting at 10 AM, with a huge Bicentennial Parade starting at the Oxford Academy High School, with floats, bands, horses, and more. Robbie Ryan of Sunnyview Farm will drive her horse drawn wagon in the parade and later take people on a guided Historic Home Tour on the East and West sides of the Village!
There will be a Civil War camp and a Native American camp, complete with teepee, on Fort Hill Park in front of the Oxford Academy Middle School. There will be Native American demonstrations, storytelling, singing, drumming, and even native dancing by the Mother Earth Drum and Singers.
The Oxford Fire Dept. will have a Dunk Tank, Fire Prevention Trailer and Airboat demos, Firematics (pushball) and an EMS booth supplying blood pressure checks. They will also hold a dance on Saturday night with a band. Fireworks, Oxford Class reunions, and more are being planned. Dignitaries will be invited to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the incorporation of the Village of Oxford with official ceremonies marking the occasion. The Oxford Memorial Library plans an Open House with tours, a Kid's Fair, a Library Dedication ceremony, a "visit with Theodore Burr" and a NYS Covered Bridges program. Don't miss joining our community in these great events!
