6OTS Seeking Readers and Old Documents for Reader's Theater

Do you have old family letters or even old family Bibles with family stories that could be read aloud in front of an audience?  In recognition of the Village of Oxford Bicentennial Celebration, 6 On The Square invites the community of all ages, to read at their, "Reader's Theater". This event is scheduled during, "Old Home Week", on Thursday, July 24th, from 6:30 -7:30 PM.
Listening to personal records can bring back memories or simply paint a mental picture of Oxford at an earlier time, a perfect vehicle for a Bicentennial. A Reader's Theater is simply people getting on stage and reading historical documents such as diaries, bibles, and Civil War letters as a performance. Since no memorization is required, it leaves the reader the freedom to be expressive. It is not necessary, but simple props/ costumes are welcome if the reader would like to "create a persona" or set the period of the piece they're reading from. Individual readers or a group of readers are encouraged to "ham it up" and use intonation and gestures appropriate to their characters and their characters' words.
The Oxford Community Band will be performing their 'Summer Concert Series' in LaFayette Park that evening, from 7:30-8:30 PM. If readers would like to continue to perform after the band concert, 6 On The Square welcomes their return.
If you would like to be a participant, but don't have any material, the Oxford Historical Society has provided some documents and diaries for reading. If you have personal documents you'd be willing to lend for the evening, 6OTS will find readers. Contact Dave Davis at (607) 843-2767 or by email, davisdav@mkl.com .
Come to perform or come to listen; it's free admission! www.6onthesquare.org ; (607) 843-OTS6 (6876). 6OTS is located at 6 LaFayette Park in downtown Oxford.
